Poems of Remembrance
Page 2 - Updated February 14, 2006.

There were so many beautiful poems written by so many people that I was finding the web page hard to edit with just one page of Remembrances. I've decided that I'm going to have a total of ten poems per page, and when that fills up, I'll just add more pages. All poems on this page are copyrighted by their respective authors. God bless.

Carved on Stone

As I walk into the place
Where you once lay
I picture your smile
And it makes my day

I remember the love
You brought in our home
No matter what kind of problem I had
I never solved it alone

Your warm voice
Touched my soul
Without the love of you or mom
In my heart, would be a hole

But your love seals it
With the sweetest little kiss
Not knowing at the time
That now, it is yesterday I miss

I always thought
Those days would last
But now they are my memories
Of your love in my past

Now to walk to where you lay
I must walk upon the dead
I close my eyes in prayer
And bow my head

I talk to you
Not through words but through my thoughts
As my tears roll gently down my face
I realize what I have lost

I can not see you anymore
Only your name carved on stone
And you enter my soul through my love
And forever you are home

I realize your with me
In everything I do
I am happy to know you are always with me
Daddy, I still love you.

Dedicated to my daddy, Robert Parke Jr.

MOM

THE HURT'S SO DEEP, THE PAIN SO STRONG
WE WONDER HOW WE'LL GET ALONG
WITHOUT YOUR SMILE, YOUR TENDER TOUCH
AND ALL THE THINGS WE'LL MISS SO MUCH

THEY SAY THAT GOD DOES NOT HEAP ON
MORE THAN WE CAN CARRY ON
BUT THIS IS MORE THAN WE CAN TAKE
GOD, PLEASE HELP, IT'S YOUR MISTAKE

IT WASN'T TIME, WE WEREN'T PREPARED
TO SAY GOOD-BYE TO THINGS WE SHARED
BUT IT'S NOT GOOD-BYE, WE'LL NEVER PART
YOUR MEMORY LIVES WITHIN OUR HEART

I KNOW THAT TIME WILL EASE THE PAIN
AND WE WILL LEARN TO LIVE AGAIN
THE HAPPY TIMES THAT WE ALL KNEW
WILL HELP US NOW AND GET US THROUGH

YOU'VE GONE TO HEAVEN WHERE YOU BELONG
GOD WILL HELP US AND MAKE US STRONG
AND AS YOU WATCH US FROM UP ABOVE
WE'LL ALWAYS FEEL YOUR PRECIOUS LOVE

Farewell

We weren't close, you and me,
Yet, I felt a loss at your passing,
And glympsed my own immortality.

When we last spoke, we both knew
So we spoke of other things,
The weather, the old days,
And the garden that you grew.

This morning, early, I received the call,
And felt a sadness at the fact
That an old friend had taken the fall,
And was not sure just how to act..

I went about my day--coffee, toast, shower;
Then as I read the morning news, I had a reverie,
And strange, I found myself in thought,
Standing in your bower.
I looked, and there before me,
(Sweet its fragrance in the morning gloom)
A single, pure white rose, a bloom.

I held the branch, and sought a sign, a balm,
A way to show that at the end I thought of you,
And as I stood, there fell upon my palm
A drop, a single, crystal bit of dew.
It caught the light from the morning sun,
Casting a rainbow seen by only one.

I should like to say
As I stood in thought,
In the garden that you kept,
The tear was mine,
But in truth it was your rose,
That single bloom, that wept.

GRINDER

We've all come together
To honor our brother with love and respect.
We shall miss him greatly,
But he lives in the hearts of all of us
and will be with us forever in our
own individual and unique memories.
Memories can never be taken away,
they can be shared with others, or not.
They can elicit a smile, even
outbursts of Laughter,
but they are ours to keep without
begining or end.
But mostly, they are to be
revered as sacred holdings,
as is the Love and friendship
he gave to all

Until We Meet Again

Losing a friend does not mean the end
It is just a temporary untill we meet again
Even though Janet is not here in body
her spirit will live on untill we meet again
Janet was a mother, wife, grandmother, sister and Aunt
but to all of us she was a friend
and remember it is not the end, just a temporary
untill we meet again
Janet always had a helping hand and a open ear
but she would always be there to make sure you got by
And remember it is not the end
Just a temporary
untill we meet again
Janet helped us out, she trusted us, she never judged,
she made us laugh, she showed us hope and strength
she fought hard and never quit, Janet is a women
to admire and she will never be forgotten
and that it is not the end
Just A Temporary Until We Meet Again

INVITATION TO CALL

My dear Lord, I know the time,
Will come for me to hear your call.
But one request I'd like to make,
Would You wait around 'till Fall?

Don't come in winter -- I must dream,
Of spring and Flowers and robins' call.
And cotton candy clouds and soft moonbeams.
Can't You wait around 'till Fall?

Don't come in spring, I've much to do,
To make my mark upon the soil.
And create beauty for all to see,
Please wait to visit until Fall.

Don't come in summer -- I must see,
The ripening of my springtime toil.
So may I ask you once again?
Do wait and call on me in Fall.

Now winter, spring, and summers gone,
I'm ready anytime You say.
I'll meet You with my arms outstretched.
Thank You for waiting until Fall!

AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW

Not many things in life are sure,
But one thing I know is true.
That when my days on earth are done,
I'll catch a glimpse of you.
I'll touch your hand --- I'll see your smile,
and nothing can go wrong.
When I hear you say again ----
"Mom, what took you so long?"

This Poem was written by my mom for my brother John Mitchell Hanners,
who was killed by a drunk driver on May 19, 1972.

Little One

I know my Mom is crying,
As my Dad sits by her side,
Cause I was their little one,
I made them full of pride.

I wish I could come to them,
And tell them not to cry,
Cause life goes on without me,
And they're going to have to try.

I'm sure the both are wondering
Why God took me away,
But, there won't be an answer,
As they ask "why" each day.

Life will go on for both of you,
And surely there is so much more,
As we all will meet again
And it will be at Heaven's door.

Soft Tears

She knelt down, placing her hand on his grave.
It was a cold and windy day.
Soft tears fell upon her face.
Why she whispered...why did you leave me?
The wind whispered back into her ear.
I'm here, I'll always be near.
We'll be together again some day.
Wipe away your tears.
Go on with your life.
Live, love and be happy again.
Stop grieving for me.
I'm just on the other side.
She smiled...brushed away her tears...took a deep breath,
And walked away.

In Loving Memory
of
PAULA NENA JIMENEZ

This is a poem for an Angel, whose time had come too soon.

Dearest little baby,
your time had come too soon,
You were the most precious gift sent from above,
Our hearts still ache for you.

When you came down upon this earth
we thought you'd always stay,.....
But as He said according to His will
"God givith, God taketh away,"

He must have been short on Angels
for only your heart was pure,
He must have known that when you left,
the pain we could endure.

If only we could turn back the hands of time
and start from the very first day.......
Then all of us could have prayed harder
for God to let you stay..
